Arsenal were right in the thick of the Premier League title race. Consecutive losses to West Ham and Fulham have knocked the Gunners back to fourth in the table. Mikel Arteta will be hoping to make up the points lost to Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa. Nizaar Kinsella and Simon Collings have reported that the North London club have a strategy in January to improve their squad depth.

Arsenal Could Sell Three Players to Fund Active Transfer Window

Kinsella’s Tweet

The English-Moroccan journalist stated Wednesday afternoon that “Arsenal are hoping to cash in to fund a January deal.” He noted that two players, Mohamed Elneny on 49k-per-week and Cedric Soares on 65k per week – are the target of interest from foreign clubs. Saudi outfits are pursuing the Egyptian, while Turkey could be a potential landing spot for the Portuguese player.

The Standard Article

Kinsella and Collings reported on Arsenal’s January transfer plans for The Standard. Aside from Elneny and Soares, Nuno Tavares is another name that could depart to raise funds, with the Portuguese defender on 29k per week. The two journalists disclosed: “The Gunners need to sell before they can buy to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.”

Tavares, currently on loan to Nottingham Forest, could see that deal “cut short amid interest from clubs in Europe.”

If selling those three footballers is not enough for Arsenal to be allowed an incoming transfer, loaning out young players could open up enough space. Amario Cozier-Duberry and Russel Waters are “wanted” and “being courted” by lower-league clubs, but whether they leave for the next six months “has not been decided.”

Arsenal Want a Striker

While Kinsella and Collings made no mention of specific targets, John Brewin of The Guardian reported that the club are seeking a striker. Ivan Toney, previously described as “remarkable,” Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Lautaro Martinez are all names mentioned, but the fees for these players would be “huge.”
